With a background based around working in, and assisting, small businesses in various industries, Cath Steel has a unique understanding of both the up and downsides of self employment. After completing a degree in Politics and Criminology at Melbourne University, I joined my father’s company building computers for a living. My father, a computer programmer, designed a software package for retailers incorporating accounting, stock control and payroll. Looking at the business requirements of each client, a computer system and software package was built to suit. After that I spent time with Electronic Commerce Australia, assisting industries in the implementation of electronic forms of business – such as quote requests, invoicing, stock management and payments. From there I became a bookkeeper assisting small businesses in setting up computerized business systems to assist with their GST compliance. More recently I have completed a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) and am a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioner’s Board and a member of the ABN, and ABA.
